To enhance the self-management of hemodialysis patients, build their confidence in overcoming the disease, and foster a harmonious doctor-patient and nurse-patient relationship, our Nephrology Department successfully held the "Health Guardian for Hemodialysis Patients" Kidney Patient Association meeting in phases in the conference room of the dialysis unit in February 2026.
The event garnered active participation from maintenance hemodialysis patients and their families at our hospital. The atmosphere was characterized by enthusiasm and frequent interactions, with discussions centered on key issues and the provision of professional advice. The meeting of the Kidney Patient Association focused intently on the "pain points" and "challenges" encountered in the daily lives of individuals undergoing dialysis.
Gong Rong, Chief Physician, and Hu Lichun, Chief Nurse of the Nephrology Department, presented an overview of the medical and nursing team. They underscored the critical importance of adhering to regular dialysis, implementing scientific management practices, and maintaining a positive mindset to enhance the quality of life and improve long-term survival rates.

Doctors Song Fang, Lin Xinqiang, and Yang Dandan from the Nephrology Department explained in easy-to-understand language the self-management details for dialysis patients regarding phosphorus control, potassium control, salt control, and fluid restriction during holidays, as well as the importance of preventing dialysis complications.

Patient education with innovative interactive formats, integrating knowledge into daily life. Unlike previous events, this activity added bedside patient education for the convenience of patients, using examples to explain how to reduce potassium and phosphorus in food through cooking techniques, making tedious dietary restrictions specific and feasible. During the "one-on-one consultation" session, patients eagerly asked questions, expressing their concerns about fluid restriction, medication management, exercise rehabilitation, and more. The medical and nursing team patiently addressed each question in detail and offered personalized guidance to each participant.

The educational lecture was more than just a transfer of knowledge; it fostered a warm connection. It created an effective healthcare communication platform, extending professional medical and nursing services from the dialysis unit into patients' everyday lives. Our aim is to empower patients through a series of educational activities, encouraging them to take primary responsibility for their own health. Looking ahead, the Nephrology Department at Sichuan Taikang Hospital will continue to innovate its approach, incorporating additional content such as psychological counseling and rehabilitation guidance. We will collaborate closely with patients and their families to nurture the flower of life and illuminate the future through "dialysis."
